The Next Chapter
It’s draft time baby!
One of the most exciting times of the year is the Spring. We all know that this season brings new beginnings and that really is true for some of our favorite college athletes who are getting ready to take their talents to the next level. We are gearing up for the WNBA draft, NBA draft and the NFL Draft all within the next three months. We get to see who is going to be joining our favorite teams.
What you need to know about each:
WNBA: Takes place on April 15 in New York.
Tax Day. Be prepared for another history making moment in women’s basketball history. I predict this will be the most watched draft for the league.
Caitlin Clark is projected to go number one overall. And they are projecting that she will go to the Indiana, Fever. Word is that the Las Vegas Aces’ first game against Indiana, in Indiana, is already being relocated to accommodated the crowd. The Aces are undefeated WNBA champs and have some beasts on their squad.
Other amazing ladies entering the draft: LSU’s Angel Reese, South Carolina’s Kamilla Cardoza, Stanford’s Cameron Blink, USC’s McKenzie Forbes, UConn’s Aaliyah Edwards.
NFL Draft: Takes place April 25-27 in Michigan.
There are seven rounds of the draft with the first two days being the biggest. Each of the 32 teams has a spot each round but could trade with another team so your team may not pick in round 2 in order to get two picks in round 3 or have a better slot in next year’s draft. Here is a quick glance at the process.
Caleb Williams from USC is projected to go number one. Quarterbacks (QB) may be the big hit as a few teams are in need of a quarterback.
The Chicago Bears have the first pick. They just traded Justin Fields to the Steelers, so they are for sure in need of a QB.
NBA Draft: Takes place on June 27
The lottery will take place on May 12. This is where we will find out the draft order for the team. Only 14 teams are eligible for the Draft Lottery. And these teams are the ones that missed the NBA Playoffs. The teams eligible for the Draft Lottery are the 14 teams that miss out on the NBA Playoffs.
To me this draft isn’t as fun because there are a lot of oversea players that get drafted, so I don’t know a lot about them. Plus this year, the men’s side hasn’t really showed many stars coming out. Not like on the women’s side.
Duke’s Kyle Filipowski just announced that he was entering a draft. A name you might know, Bronny James, the eldest son of NBA star Lebron James, is entering the draft and the transfer portal. He is weighing his option but will mostly not return to USC after his freshman year.
Mark your calendars for these dates and stay tuned in.
